Else & Ich is a lyrical mind game in a book of poems that combines the works of two female artists and offers a deep glimpse into their souls. Marit Persiel explored the life and poetry of Else Lasker-Schüler, a German-Jewish writer who died in 1945. Suddenly, Else’s poems resonated with the poems of the artist who writes today: a meeting of the works in a poetic space that is not entirely of this world and spans a century between the two authors.
Marit Persiel then writes letters to Else Lasker-Schüler. Cautious, questioning letters based on the lyrical themes and circumstances of the late artist’s life, addressing fundamental questions of our social life and the existence of each one of us. Thus poetry combines with philosophy and opens an intimate space for one’s own reflection.
