Book Launch
»The Cure«
We celebrated the book premiere of the artist Julie Legouez’s »The Cure« alongside the opening of her exhibition »My Happy Place« at Galerie Kollaborativ in Berlin. Both the book and exhibition demonstrate the artist’s personal experience with domestic violence.

On 7 March 2024, Julie Legouez launched her first artist publication, »The Cure«, at Galerie Kollaborativ in Berlin. There were lots of interested guests there to meet the artist and find out more about her work. The event was also made extra special by the presence of Karen Appel, who kindly agreed to moderate the artist talk.
As part of the event, Legouez read some passages from her publication, where she talks about her own experiences of domestic violence. In the artist talk that followed, she explained the idea behind her book and shared some insights into the creative process she worked on with designer Daniel Hahn. The book, which was created as a kind of ‘file’, documents her artistic exploration of violence against women and reflects her personal involvement in the topic.

»It’s a topic that’s often political and rarely makes it into art. So it’s good to see someone talking about it.«

To tie in with the book launch, Legouez opened her solo exhibition, »My Happy Place,« which she put together especially for the event. The exhibition, which ran from 8 March to 8 April, showcased more of the artist’s work and served as a natural extension of the book.
»The Cure« is more than just a book. It’s a powerful statement that shines a light on a topic that’s often overlooked. By sharing her personal experiences, Legouez offers strength and hope to those affected by domestic violence.

»The beautifully crafted book ›The Cure‹ is the story of a woman’s journey away from a toxic love affair. Julie Legouez artfully brings together diary entries and documentary material to create a multi-layered portrait of gender-specific experiences of violence. It’s an intense, thought-provoking read that goes beyond a personal tale.«
