The first monographic publication by Cihan Çakmak is released on the occasion of her first institutional solo exhibition at Museum Morsbroich. Through photography, drawing, text, as well as video and sound works, Çakmak explores questions of identity, origin, transgenerational trauma, and self-empowerment.

At the core of the publication is the self-portrait as an artistic strategy through which social role models and familial imprints are made visible and critically examined. The publication brings together key bodies of work and, through contributions by Şeyda Kurt, Maike Salazar Kämpf, and Thekla Zell, alongside a conversation with the artist, offers a multifaceted insight into her practice.

The catalogue was supported by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation as part of the “Catalogues for Young Artists” funding award.
