Marie Jeschke's book documents a performative art project at sites of former East German escape attempts across the Baltic Sea and border rivers. The artist works directly in the water with canvas and plant-based pigments, using her own body movements as a painterly tool. The resulting abstract works understand water as a carrier of memory and information, opening up a physical, multisensory relationship to the landscape. The publication combines performance, painting, and the culture of remembrance into a poetic exploration of history, perception, and materiality.
