In autumn 2024, the German Publishing Prize was awarded at the Frankfurt Book Fair – a nationwide award recognizing small and independent publishers for their publishing work. SHIFT BOOKS was among the award-winning publishers for the first time that year, ranking among the 84 award recipients.
The German Publishing Prize recognizes programs that contribute to the diversity of the publishing landscape through high-quality content, a clear profile, and ongoing commitment. Selection is made by an independent jury, taking into account both programmatic approach and publishing quality.
For us, this first award was a special moment. It marked an important step in the visibility of our work and confirmed the long-term development of a program focused on art and photography books, collaborative working methods, and socially relevant issues. Many of our publications are created in close collaboration with artists , designers , and partners – often over extended periods and with high design standards.
The award ceremony also provided an opportunity to exchange ideas with other independent publishers and gain insights into very different publishing approaches. We see this diversity as a great strength of the current publishing scene.
