Cihan Çakmak im Artist Talk bei EMOP Berlin 2025

Cihan Çakmak in the Artist Talk at EMOP Berlin 2025

As part of EMOP Berlin 2025, an artist talk took place with the artist Cihan Çakmak and the curator Katharina Klapdor Ben Salem. The talk was part of the Photos in Books program at the Academy of Arts on Hansaeatenweg and was followed by a book signing at the SHIFT BOOKS table.

The starting point for the talk was Cihan Çakmak's first publication , ez fraktal . The conversation focused on the connection between photography and language, dream sequences, autobiographical fragments, and the question of how identity is formed across generations. Themes such as longing, trauma, origin, and self-empowerment ran through the exchange—as did the tensions between tradition and emancipation, conformity and individual development.

The talk offered a space for personal insights into the book's creation process and for an open dialogue with the audience. It became particularly clear how closely image, memory, and narrative structure are interwoven in this project and how the book functions as an independent space for thought and experience.
