Review of the opening of "Where Hummingbirds Swim" with Marie Jeschke and a panel discussion on art, historical research, and the GDR's Baltic Sea border at the Berlin Wall Memorial.
On June 24th, the exhibition "Where Hummingbirds Swim – Life and Death at the GDR's Baltic Sea Border" by Marie Jeschke opened at the Berlin Wall Memorial. Her works are created directly in the waters of former border areas and deal with the fates of those who lost their lives attempting to flee across the Baltic Sea. In the exhibition, the artistic works meet historical objects from the collection of the Berlin Wall Foundation.
At the opening, Marie Jeschke spoke with historian Prof. Dr. Hope M. Harrison about how artistic and historical research can together open up new approaches to the Baltic Sea as a space of remembrance. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Martina Weyrauch.
